North American Carriers Report Traffic Statistics Canada’s WestJet said its load factor declined by 0.1 percentage point in February 2010, to 82.5 percent, compared to the previous February. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 9.0 percent year over year, reaching 1.22 billion, on a 9.3 percent capacity increase to 1.48 billion. American Airlines reported a February load factor of 75.5 percent, an increase of 1.5 points versus the same period last year. Traffic decreased 2.2 percent and capacity decreased 4.2 percent year over year. Domestic traffic decreased 3.9 percent year over year on 3.2 percent less capacity. International traffic increased by 0.8 percent relative to last year on a capacity decrease of 5.7 percent. American boarded 5.96 million passengers in February. AA subsidiary American Eagle reported that February traffic increased 1.0 percent year over year as capacity decreased 1.3 percent. February load factor was 66.7 percent, an increase of 1.5 points compared to the same period last year. American Eagle boarded 1.3 million passengers in February. AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., said February traffic measured in revenue passenger miles grew by 5.4 percent to 1.29 billion, while available seat miles increased by 4.2 percent to 1.72 billion. Load factor increased 0.9 percentage points to 75.1 percent. Alaska Air Group, Inc. said Alaska Airlines had an increase in load factor to 79.8 percent in February 2010, compared to 73.5 percent in February 2009. Available set miles fell by 2.4 percent to 1.69 billion, while revenue passenger miles jumped 7.8 percent to 1.35 billion. Total revenue passengers grew 2.7 percent to 1.1 million. Alaska Group’s Horizon Air reported a 5 point load factor gin to 72.2 percent, with the carrier serving 496,000 revenue passengers in the month, a 1.7 percent increase. Horizon’s RPMs increased 7.3 percent to 178 million while ASMs held steady at 246 million. Allegiant Air, LLC said its system-wide passenger numbers jumped 11.4 percent to 432,292 in February 2010 compared to the same month a year ago. RPMs increased 18 percent while ASMs advanced 17 percent. Allegiant’s load factor increased 0.8 points to 88.2 percent. |
